Overview

Supervision and Direction:

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a Certified and Registered Nursing Assistant who receives
general supervision and direction from the Director of Nursing Services or his/her licensed
designee. The CNA is responsible to the licensed nurse in charge for the overall health and welfare
of the residents assigned to his/her care. The CNA will comply with established policies and
procedures. In the absence of the Director of Nursing Services, the CNA will accept advice and
instruction from the Assistant Director of Nursing, Clinical Coordinator, or Administrator/Executive
Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The CNA is responsible for the implementation of health-related programs, services, and activities
    which promote, enhance, and maintain resident health and independence. He/she is responsible
    for implementing health-related procedures and records in conformance with the orders of the
    Director of Nursing Services, or her licensed designee, and the residents’ physicians, as well as the
    facility’s licensing agencies.
  • Specifically, the CNA:
  • 1. Participates in the comprehensive assessment/development of the resident plan of care
    and follows that plan in the daily routine care of each resident.
    2. Reports to the Licensed Nurse in charge on the general health and welfare of the residents
    on a daily basis in order to maintain the proper and appropriate records to that end.
    3. Reports on residents needing assistance with various activities of daily living, medication,
    mobility, or general health issues to the charge nurse.
    4. Provides special supervision and assistance to those residents who need assistance with
    AOL’s. Assistance with personal hygiene will include but not be limited to care of the body,
    mouth, teeth/dentures, fingernails, toenails, hair, beard, and mustache. Provision will be
    made for baths to be taken at least two times per week and more often if needed or desired.
    All residents confined to bed will be bathed daily.
    5. At the direction of the Director of Nursing, or his/her licensed designee, will assist with
    physician visits, tray service requests, sign-out by residents, activities, and procedures
    consistent with education and training.
    6. Follows correct procedure in regard to records, charts and reports; follows all facility
    policies and procedures.
    7. Participates in at least twelve (12) hours per year of in-service training and attends
    departmental meetings as required.
    8. Seeks in-service education and training to acquire or update skills needed to provide quality
    care.
    9. Assists in the implementation of health-related programming for facility residents and those
    of the larger community.
    10. Implements restorative care techniques as appropriate for each resident in the Nursing
    Center while encouraging his/her maximum independence.
    11. Assists residents at all times and remains in private dining room during meals, unless
    otherwise assigned.
    12. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and to bend, crawl, stoop, push, and lift in order to
    deliver care and services as needed.
    13. Maintains a clean, safe, and cheerful environment.
    14. Observes and protects resident rights, including the right to confidentiality, privacy, and
    dignity.
    15. Practices safety procedures and complies with established reporting of accidents and
    injuries.
    16. Performs any other related duties that may be assigned

Qualifications

  • Educational Requirements:
  • CNA
    This position requires the candidate be a graduate of a nurse aide training and competency
    evaluation program approved by the Commonwealth of Virginia and to have successfully passed
    the competency evaluation program. The candidate must be listed in good standing with the
    Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Health Professionals. Must possess:
    • Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a CNA in this state.
    • Current CPR certification; or acquire certification within 60 days of hire.Educational Requirements:

*Sign-on bonuses are offered in incremental payments over a 24-month period for full-time positions only.
